We require an exam if your puppy is under 1 year of age the first time they are getting vaccines. Our doctors will make the vaccine recommendations for your puppy based on their age, health status and lifestyle. Vaccines are an essential part of the preventive care plan for your pet. Vaccines help your puppy and dog develop a strong defense against dangerous diseases, including zoonotic diseases (diseases that can be transmitted from pets to humans).
  • All dogs should have the following core vaccines:
    • Distemper (viral disease that can be fatal or cause neurological disease)
    • Adenovirus (virus that causes infectious hepatitis in dogs)
    • Parvovirus (virus that can cause severe hemorrhagic diarrhea and death)
    • Parainfluenza (virus that causes upper respiratory infections)
    • Leptospira (zoonotic disease transmitted to pets from contact with rodent’s urine)
    • Rabies (zoonotic fatal disease, required by law in Ventura and Los Angeles counties)
    • Our DAPP vaccine is a combination of the first 4 vaccines listed above.
    • We also offer individual Leptospira vaccines or Leptospira combined with DAPP to reduce the number of injections your pet will need.
  • In addition to these, other vaccines are just as essential for some dogs based on their lifestyle and risk. These include:
    • Lyme disease (disease transmitted by ticks)
    • Bordetella (common cause of the “kennel cough”)
    • Canine influenza
    • Rattlesnake toxoid (for dogs at high risk of exposure
  • Core for an individual pet means they get the vaccines required for ALL dogs PLUS vaccines required based on the dog’s lifestyle and risk factors.
  • Our doctors will discuss with you the benefits of each vaccine recommended for your puppy and create a plan based on your puppy’s needs. When vaccines are overdue or unknown, consider that the benefits of vaccinating outweigh the risks in most cases. A good rule of thumb is: When in doubt, vaccinate.
  • Adult dogs will receive annual boosters of core vaccines and additional vaccines based on their lifestyle. Some vaccines, if not overdue, can be given every 3 years, not annually.
  • Vaccines can be done during your pet’s annual visit, rechecks or any time they are due for vaccines, as a tech appointment.
  • There is a tech appointment fee if you are bringing your pets for vaccines, but you will not need to pay for an exam fee with the veterinarian.
  • After their first visit, puppies can receive vaccine boosters during a tech appointment.

We use the highest quality vaccines available, and the manufacturers of our vaccines will guarantee their efficacy if we follow the recommended schedule. Our team is trained to properly handle and give vaccines.

We will discuss with you the risks of adverse reactions and how we can recognize and prevent those events.

We ask that if your pet shows any signs of a vaccine reaction, please contact us immediately so we can treat your pet and ensure that precautions are taken in future appointments to mitigate the symptoms of a potential reaction. A history of previous vaccine reaction is not a reason to skip care vaccines. Please talk to our veterinarians if you have any questions or concerns.
