All kittens under 1 year of age must have a full veterinary exam on their first visit. Our doctors will make the vaccine recommendations for your kitten based on their age, health status, and lifestyle. Vaccines are an essential part of the preventive care plan for your pet. Vaccines help your kitten and adult cat develop a strong defense against dangerous diseases, including zoonotic diseases (diseases that can be transmitted from pets to humans). Nowadays, feline vaccines are not simply recommended based on “indoor x outdoor” status. As pets become more integrated with our family’s lifestyle, cats are more exposed to the outdoor world. We travel with our cats, we board them in cat facilities, we take them to the groomer, or we allow them some outdoor time in fenced backyards. Some cats are trained to walk on a leash to adventure outside with us! It is important to consider the risk of contact with neighborhood cats when deciding which vaccines they need.

CAT VACCINES

Core vaccines are for all cats with unknown vaccine history (kittens or adult cats)

  • (FCV) feline calicivirus;
  • (FHV-1) feline herpesvirus-1;
  • (FPV) feline panleukopenia;
  • (FeLV) feline leukemia (FELV/FIV test: negative result is required to receive leukemia vaccine)
  • Rabies
  • Based on lifestyle vaccines are vaccines that we will recommend to add to the core vaccines, based on the risk of exposure. Strictly indoor adult cats might not receive an annual booster of the feline leukemia vaccine (FeLV) after their second year of life. However, consider your cat at risk if you travel with them or, if they have contact with the neighborhood cats through a screen door.

Our FVRCP vaccine combines the first three viruses listed above, so your cat will get only one injection.

  • Vaccines can be done during your pet’s annual visit, rechecks or any time they are due for vaccines, as a tech appointment.
  • There is a tech appointment fee if you are bringing your pets for vaccines on a day that your pet is not coming for an exam with the veterinarian.
  • After their first visit, kittens can receive vaccine boosters during a tech appointment.

We use the highest quality vaccines available, and the manufacturers of our vaccines will guarantee their efficacy if we follow the recommended schedule. Our team is trained to properly handle and give vaccines.

We will discuss with you the risks of adverse reactions and how we can recognize and prevent those events.

We ask that if your pet shows any signs of a vaccine reaction, please contact us immediately so we can treat your pet and ensure that precautions are taken in future appointments to mitigate the symptoms of a potential reaction. A history of previous vaccine reactions is not a reason to skip care vaccines. Please talk to our veterinarians if you have any questions or concerns.
